PRESENTATION

Collective Prototyping of Spontaneous, Live and Immersive Scenography using FLOSS

This presentation is dedicated to any creators seeking to imagine innovative uses of immersion, and in particular collective immersion in spaces that are not dedicated to it. In such a context, the implementation of immersion is as much a matter of scenography as of architecture, and each installation has its specificities. Hence the interest in facilitating the prototyping of installations on site, by trying to take advantage of all the tools at our disposal to encourage the exploration of possibilities.

During this presentation we will illustrate mechanisms of collaborative creation, allowing to involve various practices around a common objective which is the creation of an interactive immersive experience. We will see how by using communication tools (network protocols, file formats, data mapping tools, etc.) it is possible to collaborate using a wide variety of tools, including free software dedicated to immersion developed at the Society for Arts and Technology, other free and open tools, and proprietary tools commonly used in the context of immersive creation. This exchange with participants is an adaptation of a workshop that was given over two days at ISEA'22: https://isea2022.isea-international.org/event/workshop-creating-spontaneous-and-mobile-immersive-spaces-using-floss/.

We will focus on one of the key elements that made this workshop work, namely the constant and continuous exchange between participants. The presentation will be broken down into three parts: 30 minutes of presentation of issues, tools and observations

30 minutes of demonstration of the implementation of a collaborative work process

Discussion with the participants, followed by an opening on the perspectives, particularly in terms of experimentation and education.
